There are moments in life when memory becomes heavier than the present. Moments when you sit quietly and begin to trace your steps, not just the successes that others can see, but the hidden battles, the close calls, the silent struggles that almost broke you. And as you look back, one truth rises above everything else, simple yet overwhelming.
But for God.
Because there are places you could have been. There are outcomes that could have defined your life. There are decisions you made in weakness that should have ended differently. There are nights you remember, when nothing made sense, when the future felt uncertain, when fear sat beside you like a constant companion. And yet, somehow, you are still here.
Not by accident.
Not by luck.
But for God.
There were times when you did not have the strength you needed. Times when your plans failed, when doors closed without warning, when the people you trusted could not carry you through. There were moments when you questioned everything, even your own ability to continue. Yet in those same moments, something unseen held you together.
When you thought you would fall, you stood.
When you thought you would lose your way, you were guided.
When you thought it was over, a new path appeared.
And even when you did not recognize it at the time, God was present.
There were dangers you never saw. Situations that could have gone wrong in ways you cannot fully explain. Delays that felt frustrating in the moment but later revealed themselves as protection. Disappointments that redirected your path away from what would have harmed you.
But for God.
There are blessings in your life that did not come because you deserved them. Opportunities that arrived when you were not fully prepared. Favour that found you when you least expected it. Mercy that covered your mistakes. Grace that gave you another chance when you knew you had fallen short.
If life were measured only by what we have earned, many of us would not stand where we stand today.
But God does not deal with us only according to what we deserve. He deals with us in mercy.
And that mercy has carried you.
It carried you through seasons when nothing seemed to move. It carried you through disappointment, through rejection, through loss. It carried you when your faith was weak and your hope was fading. Even when you doubted, even when you questioned, even when you wandered, His faithfulness did not change.
Because God does not abandon His own.
There is something humbling about recognizing this truth. It removes pride. It silences the illusion of self-sufficiency. It reminds you that your life is not held together by your strength alone.
You have worked hard. You have made choices. You have endured. That is true.
But even in your effort, there was grace.
Grace in the opportunities you received.
Grace in the people who helped you.
Grace in the strength you did not know you had.
But for God.
And so gratitude becomes more than a word. It becomes a posture of the heart. A quiet acknowledgment that everything you are, everything you have, and everything you hope to become rests in something greater than you.
You begin to see life differently.
The small things matter more.
The ordinary moments feel meaningful.
The future, though uncertain, feels held.
Because the same God who brought you this far has not changed.
His faithfulness is not seasonal.
His presence is not occasional.
His grace is not limited.
And if He has kept you through what you have already faced, then there is reason to trust Him with what lies ahead.
So today, the words come not from obligation, but from a place of deep awareness.
Thank you, Lord.
For the battles you fought for me when I did not know how to fight.
For the protection I did not see.
For the mercy I did not earn.
For the grace that carried me when I could not carry myself.
Because when I look at my life honestly, when I strip away everything that can be explained, one truth remains.
But for God, I would not be here.
And for that, my heart will always be grateful.
